I was given an ebook copy of The Discarded by Louis Van Schalkwyk to review by the publisher, Kingsley Publishers. ![]() The end twist did surprise me a little bit, but I still kind of saw it coming… Full Review Evelyn Hugo is not very likeable, nor is she a good person, so I really didn’t feel as sorry for her as maybe I should have. So I don’t know if it was just because the story felt so formulaic or if it was because I just didn’t feel sympathy for the main character like you’re supposed to. ![]() I did get choked up a little bit at the end, but nothing like what other readers had described. I had heard of people sobbing over this book and how it completely changed their lives, but for me this book unfolded pretty much the way I expected it to. It just didn’t blow me away like I expected. It’s definitely the sort of book I would pick to read for myself, even without all of the recommendations. I’d heard so many good things about this book so I tried to go into it with reasonable expectations. I had been wanting to read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid, so when I managed to get a copy of it, I started reading it. ![]()
